Inference (Creation, 1994) Pacific are easily one of my favourite bands. And yet, they only released one album and two 12" singles. And even then the singles were just two EPs of the songs that made up the album! I know pretty much nothing about the band. Members? Songwriter? Further (or past) musical endeavours? Nothing. I've tried various Creation message boards and talked with Pat Fish (Jazz Butcher) to glean some info. None. I discovered this band through the Creation compilation 'Doing It For The Kids' - one of the greatest compilations there's EVER been. So much so, I gave it as a gift to, not one, but two girlfriends! Obviously, I never told them (hi Mary, hi Clair). The music is a gentle electronica. Lots of sweeping orchestral arrangements a la Scott Walker over New Order/Kraftwerk style beats. Maybe a bit Trembling Blue Stars or even Paul Hartnoll's Ideal Condition? Lyrics are somewhat political in general and of the left-wing variety. Nothing wrong with that. Sleeve is gorgeous (judge for yourself) with the black inset really setting it off. Apart from that, I know nothing. Any info is much appreciated - especially if they did anything further under a different name. Inference is now unavailable, so download from http://soundscape.4shared.com/ Chris Smillie MAJOR UPDATE! Pacific main man Dennis Wheatley is now performing as Shrift - see here for my review.
